Welcome CECC Families! We are so excited that your student will be joining us in person in just a few short days! I know some families have been able to visit our building already for their home visit and you have met with your child’s teacher, and some families will be doing that tomorrow and Thursday. Just having your child in our building has brought so much joy to our staff because your child is WHY we do what we do.

Before we get started with a brand new school year, I need to give you some detailed information about a few very important topics:

Mask Wearing

At CECC, we will absolutely be following the district’s protocols and enforce that all students must wear a mask while riding the bus and in school. Given the recent increase in cases with the Delta variant, we must protect all of our students and staff and to ensure their health and safety. If your child struggles to wear a mask, it is very important that you practice wearing masks at home and in the community, as well as discuss the importance of wearing the mask to be safe.

We will of course work with your child at school to wear a mask for a reasonable amount of time; however, if your child continues to refuse to wear a mask at school consistently, then they may be excluded from attending our preschool program.

Masks must be child size, and fit properly over the nose and mouth without slipping down. If your child wears cloth masks, it is also important that you wash them regularly and best practice would be to have a clean mask each day. If you need a mask for your child, please let us know and we will assist you. Thank you so much for helping to keep all of our students and staff safe by working together with mask wearing.

Transportation

Unit 4 School District, like most other school districts, is very short staffed in some departments but most especially in the transportation department. Despite our ongoing efforts to recruit, hire, and train new bus drivers (if you are interested in driving a bus please let me know!), we are still very short. As a result, we must expect that buses will be running very late both with picking up and dropping off your child.

You should expect that you may be waiting 30 minutes or more beyond your scheduled times. It is very important to continue to watch for the buses for both pick up and drop off. If the bus comes to your house when dropping your child off after school and you are not visible, your child will have to ride the bus through the remainder of the route and get dropped back off at our building.

You likely will not receive your child’s scheduled pick up and drop off times until Thursday. Please know we are doing our best in a difficult situation and we really appreciate your understanding and patience while we get through the start of the school year with late buses.

I look forward to sending you more messages and newsletters with lots of fun information about what we are doing at CECC in the coming weeks, but it is important you have this information as soon as possible. We appreciate and value your involvement and support of our program and partnering in helping to prepare your child for kindergarten!

If you have questions, please feel free to email me at dearinch@u4sd.org or you can call our office at 217-351-3881.
